The NBA MVP is always a talking point throughout the season.

But the number of star players who play as MVPs this season is staggering.

Halfway through the season, you might count around 6-8 players who have a chance of winning league MVP.

But, a few have stood out among the rest so far.

Here are three NBA players who are expected to be league MVP favorites this year.

1. Nikola Jokic

The Denver Nuggets have the best record in the Western Conference at 31-13.

One of the main factors in their success was Nikola Jokic’s game.

Jokic has won the MVP title each of the past two seasons, and a hat-trick is on the line.

As voter fatigue builds in the league if Jokic continues to play the way he has it will be hard to vote against him.

Over the season, Jokic is averaging 25.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game.

He shoots 62.7% from the field and is a threat all over the field.

Winning three consecutive MVPs is tough, but if anyone has a chance, it’s Jokic.

2. Luka Doncic

The NBA’s top scorer is Dallas Mavericks goaltender Luka Doncic.

He has been trending towards the league MVP title for a while.

This could be the season he finally breaks through.

MVP voters are always looking to bestow the award on someone new.

So Doncic may have an advantage over Jokic in this regard.

On the season, Doncic averaged 33.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.

It’s only a matter of time before Doncic walks away with an MVP.

3. Joel Embiid

After finishing second in MVP voting for the past two seasons, Embiid looks set to break through.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been led by Embiid for years, with his only downfall being missed games.

The 28-year-old has never played more than 68 games in one season in his career as different injuries constantly crop up.

But, when he’s on the pitch, there aren’t many better players.

Embiid is averaging 33.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists on the season.

While also shooting 53.6% from the field on nearly 21 shots per game.

His defensive production is something Jokic and Doncic can’t touch, which can give him an edge in the eyes of voters.

If Embiid can stay healthy, he’ll be a favorite for MVP again at the end of the season.
