Full time: AC Milan 1-3 Borussia Dortmund
A well-deserved victory for Borussia Dortmund, who survived an early scare to become the first team in Group F to qualify for the round of 16.
Milan started quickly and won an early penalty, but it went mostly downhill for them from then on after Giroud missed from the spot. The Germans immediately went up the other end and were awarded a penalty of their own, with Reus showing the French striker how it’s done from 12 yards.
Erdin Terzic’s men were dangerous on the break, with Bynoe-Gittens especially threatening down the left. However, Chukwueze levelled for the hosts out of nowhere, netting from a seemingly harmless position out on the right a few minutes before half time.
That gave the Italians hope going into the second half but the reality is that they never got going. Dortmund’s passing was sharper and more incisive, with a well-worked move ending with Bynoe-Gittens restoring their lead just before the hour-mark.
And the visitors wasted little time in extending their advantage, although Maignan will feel he should’ve kept out Adeyemi’s strike from the edge of the box.
Dortmund would’ve expected a Milan rally in the final 20 minutes but it never came, with a speculative header from Jovic, which came off the outside of the post, the closest the Rossoneri came to threatening a comeback.
