Setting a record total, India got in early but the approach backfired after another top-notch collapse. Kasun Rajitha played as Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were dismissed in just the second set of innings. Rahul Tripathi, who was making his debut, took off with a boundary but was dispatched by Madushanka.
Hardik Pandya played a few attacking shots before being dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne. India were 34/4 when Deepak Hooda entered at bat. The hosts softened and played some overs before Hooda missed a Hasaranga pull to Dhananjaya de Silva. Axar Patel came on at bat and India were 64/5 at the halfway mark, needing well over 14 runs.

The southpaw unleashed a series of strikes, taking over the boundaries at will. Suryakumar Yadav, who hit him up to that point, also started playing his trademark shots. The Men in Blue needed 109 to win 42 balls when Axar fired a hat-trick of six against Hasaranga to kick off India’s comeback. India picked up 26 over the total as Suryakumar also netted one over the ropes in style.
Axar, who scored a career-high 31 last game, overtook that in style and got into the opening 50 on just 20 balls. Surya reached her milestone in 33 deliveries. India only seemed to take the lead when Madushanka brought out Surya for 51.
Shivam Mavi played some delicious shots but the target turned out to be too heavy in the end. Shanaka played last with India needing 21. Axar was out 3rd ball and SL galloped to a 16-point win in Pune.

Earlier, captain Hardik Pandya won the coin toss and opted to play first, again beating the pundits’ opinion. On a pitch that favors teams batting first, SriLanka went down on a flyer helped by passing Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi. Arshdeep scored a no-balls hat trick as Kusal Mendis put his eye.
As Nissanka struggled, Mendis played his series of shots hitting the Indian playmakers from all parts of the pitch. Arshdeep went for 19, Mavi conceded 24 from his first two overs while Umran was unwelcome. Kusal reached his fifty balls in just 27 balls while Sri Lanka racked up 80 in the first 8 overs.
Indian spinners Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal led the Indian response. Chahal struck first as a well-placed Mendis was fired LBW. Umran saw Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s back while Silva’s Dhananjaya was no match for Axar Patel. Nissanka continued to struggle and eventually held out in the depths for 33.

Charith Asalanka tossed the bowl with four sixes as Dasun Shanaka put his eye into it. Umran got Asalanka and Hasaranga on consecutive balls. However, Shanaka again piled into Death Races. Arshdeep Singh had the Sri Lanka captain caught, but it was deemed another no-ball.
The left arm pacer threw 5 balls without a ball, an unwanted record, on an unforgettable day at the office. Mavi conceded 20 on the last over as SL came up to 206/6. Shanaka reached his fifty in 20 balls, the fastest ever by a Sri Lankan. The skipper’s efforts saw the Lankans snap their 12-game losing streak against India in India.
