David Moyes outlines West Ham’s summer transfer plans after £170m outlay
Avid Moyes admits West Ham are unlikely to spend as much as they did last summer in the transfer market.
The Hammers invested around £170million in a series of big-name additions at the end of last season, including Italy and Brazil internationals in the form of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.
For much of the campaign, the heavy spending failed to pay off as Moyes’ side struggled to reach previous Premier League heights.
Yet with security now all but assured, attention has now turned to the Europa Conference League.
Thursday night’s victory over AZ Alkmaar puts the Irons in command of the semi-final ahead of next month’s showpiece showdown in Prague.
As things stand, the club are on course to lift a first European trophy since the 1964/65 side lifted the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup against 1860 Munich.
In the hope that the signings made last summer will offer an improvement next time around, Moyes said: “For the most part planning is on the back burner until you have retained your Premier League status.
“The truth is that the only objective has been to stay in the Premier League.
“We brought in a lot of players last summer, so I see (this summer) more tinkering and little bits here and there. I see a change here or there and an addition or two.
