Donald Trump allowed to return to Facebook and Instagram after a two-year ban
Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will be reinstated after a two-year suspension following the Jan. 6 uprising.
Parent Facebook Meta said in a blog post on Wednesday that it would add “new guardrails” to ensure there are no “repeat offenders” who break its rules.
“In the event that Mr. Trump posts further violating content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for one month to two years, depending on the severity of the violation,” said Meta, based in Menlo Park, Calif. said.
Responding to Meta’s decision, the former US President said, “FACEBOOK, which has lost billions of dollars in value since it ‘deplatformed’ your favorite president, me, has just announced that it is reinstating my account.
“Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting president, or anyone who doesn’t deserve retaliation!”
He added, “THANK YOU TO TRUTH SOCIAL FOR DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB. YOUR GROWTH IS EXCEPTIONAL, AND THE FUTURE UNLIMITED!!!”
Mr Trump was suspended on January 7, a day after the deadly 2021 insurgency.
The suspension prompted other social media companies to take similar action.
But he was recently reinstated on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the business, although he has yet to tweet on the platform.

Mr. Trump uses his own, much smaller site, Truth Social, which he launched after being banned from Twitter.
Earlier this month, a confidante of the former president revealed that Mr. Trump may soon start tweeting again.
According to NBC News, advisers to his 2024 presidential campaign have been considering what his first job should be.
A Republican, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations with Mr Trump about returning to the platform, said: “Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It’s just a matter of how and when.
“He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump is speaking for Trump, so anyone can guess what he’s going to do or say or when.”
