‘End of an era’ – Paris Saint-Germain switch planned with Lionel Messi out of contract but Chelsea could be put off Neymar move

Neymar may have played his last game alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain.
That’s the verdict of South American football expert Tim Vickery, who is worried about the PSG star after his latest injury.
The Brazil international has been ruled out for up to four months after having to undergo ankle surgery.
He effectively ended his season, with the striker not expected to return to first-team training until pre-season.
And with speculation over Messi’s contract at the Parc des Princes set to expire at the end of the season, it could see the Argentine’s attacking trio alongside Mbappe and Neymar go their separate ways this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Vickery told Hawsbee & Jacobs: “It’s worrying isn’t it? I worry about his future.
“If they come out of the Champions League, you sort of expect the end of an era at PSG.
“The end of the Mbappe, Messi and Neymar era, where Neymar was kind of overtaken by Mbappe in the whole project.
“It didn’t really work out for him anyway and with these recurring ankle injuries you wonder what his future is.”
PSG face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night but find themselves in a difficult position, needing to close a goal deficit after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, where the German side did not not lost this season.
And Christophe Galtier has to do it without Neymar at his disposal as the 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks.
But Vickery doesn’t see the Blues shelling out big bucks to sign the former Barcelona star.
He added: “There has been a lot of talk about him, maybe he will move to the Premier League with Chelsea.
“Is anyone really going to pay a lot of money for him with his injury record? Especially in a league as physically intense as the Premier League.
“So I’m a bit worried about what the future holds for him.”
Neymar has missed 102 games due to injury at PSG during his time at the club.
In 2021/22 he has made 22 Ligue 1 appearances – the most league appearances he has made in a single season since leaving Barcelona in 2017.
