Florida Rep. Greg Steube released from hospital after crash at home

SARASOTA, Fla. — A U.S. congressman from Florida who was seriously injured in a tree-trimming accident in Sarasota said on Saturday he was discharged from hospital and recovering at home.

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., said in a evening tweet may he remain “infinitely blessed by the prayers and support of our friends, family and community”.

He added that his office “will provide updates next week on the impact of my recovery on my return to Washington.”

A tweet posted on the congressman’s official profile on Thursday said that Steube had been “knocked down about 25 feet from a ladder while trimming tree limbs on his Sarasota property” the day before.

A separate tweet said he spent the night in intensive care after sustaining several serious but non-life-threatening injuries. An individual witnessed the fall and called 911, according to the account.

Steube also thanked the staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Saturday “for the excellent care” he received.

Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and has just started his third term. He represents all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties and part of Lee County.
