The 62-year-old was barred from the Match of the Day presentation this weekend after criticizing the UK government for its new asylum policy.

A host of BBC pundits and Lineker colleagues then decided they would not appear in solidarity – with internal MOTD commentators also joining the boycott.

This led BBC chiefs to decide to broadcast a short show of the six matches that took place on Saturday.

Although talkSPORT offered to step in and save the day after serving Alan Brazil to take on the presenting role.

To the surprise of Match of the Day viewers, the famous theme music before the show started was also removed, with viewers having no indication that the program had started.

And unsurprisingly, fans wanted more as the show’s soul was ripped out following their drastic decisions.

This user joked, “Even Match of the Day theme boycotted the show in solidarity with Gary Lineker.”

Meanwhile, one said, “Strange MOTD. No titles. No theme music. No comment. Feels completely flat. Definitely an own goal by the BBC.

And comedian Omid Djalili tweeted: “Watch MOTD without a presenter or experts. Appalling. Even YouTube clips have comments.

“Immediate dispatch of my new publicity plan to the BBC as an emergency replacement for Gary Lineker next week.”

Summarizing the viewer experience, one fan said: “Congratulations BBC. The worst production of a program ever in British television history. Incredible achievement.

Some users liked the mini recap of the action, although TalkTV host Piers Morgan called it “s***”.

He said: “The BBC should now adjust the license fee so that anyone on Twitter claiming to prefer Match of the Day in the new format can pay £1 less per month.

“But only look at it that way in the future. Spoiler alert: no one would agree to this deal. It’s shit.
