Jon Jones defeats Ciryl Gane in UFC return to become heavyweight champion

Jon Jones made it easy in his UFC comeback fight and heavyweight debut.

‘Bones’ is the new heavyweight champion of the world after quickly knocking out Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 285 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The former two-time light-heavyweight champion landed a low blow early before bringing Gane to the ground and starting to work on submissions.

In just over two minutes, he got the Frenchman’s tap to become a two-weight UFC champion and solidify his best-ever status after years of debate.

Jones was emotional during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

He said, “I’m so excited. I’ve been working on this for a long time. You know, a lot of people thought I would never come back, but I was true to my purpose and my mission.

The 35-year-old has expressed interest in fighting former two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who he has been heavily linked to face before in July.

Jones added, “You all want to see me beat Stipe? One thing I know about the UFC is that we give the fans what they want to see.

“Stipe Miocic, I hope you’re practicing, mate. You are the greatest heavyweight of all time. That’s what I want. I really want you.

Miocic hasn’t fought since losing the UFC heavyweight title to Francis Ngannou who knocked him out at UFC 260 in March 2021.

The 40-year-old was hoping to face Jones last year, but their fight fell through and the greatest MMA fighter of all time fought Gane instead.

Now it looks like the two are ready to throw themselves into the summer.
