Jon Rahm out of The Players Championship due to stomach ailment
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Jon Rahm withdrew from the Players Championship on Friday due to a stomach condition, leaving the strongest field of the year without its No. 1 player.
Rahm opened with a 71. He was scheduled to play second-placed Scottie Scheffler and third-placed Rory McIlroy in the second round.
He pulled out about 30 minutes before his tee time with what his manager described as a “stomach ache”.
Rahm is already a three-time winner on the PGA Tour this year, which allows him to regain the No. 1 spot. Scheffler and McIlroy could pass him this week depending on their performances. McIlroy, who shot 76 on day one, had to try to make the cut first.
