HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – You may recognize his name for being an All-American, record-setting quarterback at the University of Kentucky, but would you recognize it for being in a television commercial?
Eastern Kentucky native and National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame elect Tim Couch will appear on WYMT tonight during half-time of Super Bowl LVIII. Couch is making an appearance as part of a University of Kentucky Football program advertisement. Kick off for tonight’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is set for 6:30 p.m.
Couch played at Kentucky from 1996-98. In 1999, Couch declared for the National Football League Draft and was selected No. 1 overall by the expansion team Cleveland Browns. Following the 2003 season with the Browns, injuries ended his career.
During his time in Eastern Kentucky, Couch made history. He was named the 1995 National Player of the Year at Leslie County High School and set the then-national records for pass completions (872), passing yards (12,104) and touchdown passes (133).
Couch was not just know for his skills on the field, but also on the court. He played basketball for Leslie County and led the state in scoring with 36 points per game during his junior season. His achievements eventually led him to being named No. 6 on an ESPN list of the Best High School Athletes Ever. He also was chosen to the MaxPreps list of the 50 greatest high school all-around athletes of all time.
