Marseille head coach Igor Tudor insists there are only four players in world football above the level of Alexis Sanchez.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker has been a key figure in Ligue 1 this season, having scored 17 goals in 40 appearances.

Sanchez moved to Orange Velodrome last summer after agreeing to terminate his contract at Inter Milan.

The move paid off for both parties, with the 34-year-old producing some of his best career form with the French giants.

And Tudor paid Sanchez a huge compliment during his press conference on Friday, insisting there are only four players who can claim to be above him.

“He is a key player in our team. Football changes at Olympique de Marseille when he plays,” Tudor told reporters.

Igor Tudor praised Alex Sanchez’s performance

“He is a player of another level. He’s a player who sometimes we don’t pay attention to his playing level because he’s a normal and humble guy.

“He doesn’t behave like a star but for me, after the aliens of (Lionel) Messi, (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Kylian) Mbappe and (Erling) Haaland, he’s there.

“He’s an impossible player to replace and every team in the world when he’s out will feel that, so we felt that too.”

Sanchez is set to feature for Marseille when they visit Sunday’s already-relegated Angers with Champions League qualification on the line.

Marseille are third in Ligue 1 and lead Lens by two points after Frank Haise’s men won 2-1 against OM last weekend.

With just four games to play, Sanchez will play a leading role in helping Marseille bid to climb above Lens with the reward of direct qualification for the Champions League group stages on the line.

Meanwhile, leaders Paris Saint-Germain, who hold a six-point advantage over Lens, could close in on a record 11th title with a win over modest Ajaccio on Saturday night.

Boss Christophe Galtier can call on Messi again after the Argentine has completed his suspension.
