New York Plastic Surgeon’s Viral TikTok Video Warns Exercise He Says Causes Premature Aging

A New York City plastic surgeon has taken to social media to warn his followers that long-distance running speeds up aging.
In a viral TikTok video, Dr Gerald Imber said the high-impact nature of running could negatively contribute to a runner’s skin condition.

“Have you ever seen a long distance runner who didn’t have a skinny old face?” He asked. “That’s what happens to people who run.”

Imber explained that marathon running also puts stress on the body, “Your knees go, your ankles go, your back goes.”
“It’s a bit stupid,” he added.

The 82-year-old surgeon with a private plastic surgery practice in Manhattan admitted that “half my patients love me for it, and half my patients hate me for it.”

Despite the doctor’s controversial opinion on running, he reiterated that there was nothing wrong with running once in a while.
“It’s perfectly fine to run a little every day or run a few miles a few times a week, it’s great.” Imber said. “But low or no impact is the best way to exercise.”

“Personal trainer here,” one commenter wrote in agreement. “I completely agree with you.”
“That,” a woman commented. “44 years old with two hip prostheses. Before, I ran 10 kilometers a day.”
