Newcastle find their way back to winning ways but Nick Pope ‘gets off with a red card’ after collision with Wolves striker Raul Jimenez

Newcastle picked up their first victory in six Premier League games, although the Magpies and goalkeeper Nick Pope may have had some luck in their 2-1 win over Wolves.
Pope, who recently served a suspension after being sent off in Newcastle’s loss to Liverpool last month, was said to have had his heart in his mouth when he collided with Wolves striker Raul Jimenez in the box. Magpies.
Referee Andy Madley decided to let play continue, a decision which infuriated the Wolves players.
But Darren Ambrose believes that not only were the former Newcastle side lucky not to be awarded a penalty, but also not reduced to ten men.
Reacting to the incident, Ambrose said on talkSPORT: “I think it’s a red card. I’m glad it wasn’t given as he’s my FPL (Fantasy Premier League) keeper!
“If you look at his reaction, he was freaking out. He mishandled him and pulled his arm out.
“He’s a smart goalkeeper because he made it look like there was no contact. I think it’s a red card and I think Nick Pope knows that.
“The only saving grace for me is that when Raul Jimenez touched him, he kind of moved towards him. I think they got away with one.
Pope was spared five minutes before Eddie Howe’s men took the lead as Alexander Isak collected Kieran Trippier’s perfect free kick on the right in the 26th minute.
An error from Trippier appeared to give the visitors a point as he slipped trying to manage an innocuous ball in the box, leaving striker Hwang Hee-Chan with the simple task of putting the ball into an empty net at 70 minutes .
But Miguel Almiron restored Newcastle’s lead with a deflected effort, giving the North East side three crucial points in their pursuit of Champions League football.
