Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin Russia will insist that Rosselkhozbank reconnect with SWIFT to enter into a food agreement under the UN agreement on the export of agricultural products to needy countries. He announced this during a press briefing on November 12, 2022.

“This is not the first time we are discussing this, because from my point of view, the reconnection of the Russian Agricultural Bank, which provides most of the transactions on agricultural issues, agricultural operations, is a key issue. Besides, of course, we cannot simply move forward. discussed and before that, yesterday we talked about it very concretely and for a long time, we again received assurances from the representatives of the United Nations that they also consider this issue important,” Vershinin said.

According to him, Russia will do everything to reconnect the bank to the international system.

As a temporary alternative, the Deputy Foreign Minister suggested opening correspondent accounts in several foreign banks – Citibank and JP Morgan.

“But if this option is possible, it can only be temporary, because the real solution is a complete reconnection with the SWIFT financial messaging system of the Russian Agricultural Bank,” he emphasized.

Earlier, Vershinin said that Russia had not made a final decision on the grain agreement, given the examples of the Crimean bridge and Sevastopol. According to him, the final position of Russia on the food agreement will be prepared during the implementation of the memorandum of understanding between the Russian Federation and the UN on the supply of Russian agricultural products.
