SBK Clarence House Chase: Edwardstone set for Ascot tilt ahead of Champion Chase bid
Alan King is keen to occupy Edwardstone before a crack at the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase.
Arkle’s winner last season had a delayed start to the season due to the warm autumn, with scheduled appearances in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham and a handicap at Ascot missed due to fast pitch.
When he finally made a late return to action, he got rid of Greeneteen for a nine-length success across Tingle Creek at Sandown.
However, he then knocked down Tom Cannon at the fifth fence as he was 2-5 favorite in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton on Christmas.
His next outing will be at the Clarence House Chase at Ascot on January 21 live on Sky Sports Racingbefore potentially heading to Newbury on February 11 for the Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase.
King said: “Edwardstone is going to Ascot on the 21st (January). He studied the other morning and he was brilliant. I think he was just too cool at Kempton. It was just one of those things.
“So we’ll go to Ascot and we could easily get into the Spirit Game. He’s an improving horse for racing.
“The pitch has been a nightmare. Since the end of last season, the goal was to start it in the Shloer at Cheltenham, have a run and then go to Tingle Creek.
“He’s very fresh right now and a few more runs won’t hurt him.”
