Stabbing a German train kills 2 and injures 7; the motive remains unknown
A man in Germany fatally stabbed two people and injured seven others on a train before police finally arrested him on Wednesday.
“It’s terrible,” Schleswig-Holstein state interior minister Sabine Suetterlin-Waack told German public broadcaster NDR. “We are shocked and horrified that something like this has happened.”
The man, identified as aged between 20 and 30, boarded a train from Kiel to Hamburg and attacked several passengers around 3 p.m. before the train reached Brokstedt station in northern Germany. ‘Germany.

Police took the suspect, who was also injured, to hospital for treatment. Authorities did not provide any additional information about the suspect’s identity but noted that the suspect was not on any extremist watchlists, based on preliminary checks.
Two hours after the attack, police had yet to identify a motive or update the status of the victims, German media DW reported.

But the DPA news agency reported that the suspect had shown signs of psychiatric illness, citing a security source speaking off the record.
Regional and federal police joined the prosecutor’s office to investigate the attack, NDR reported.

Rail operator Deutsche Bahn expressed condolences on Wednesday evening, saying “our deepest sympathy goes out to the loved ones of the victims. We wish those injured a speedy and full recovery.”
