Wizards focus on the future
The biggest NBA news yesterday was the transfer of Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards to the Los Angeles Lakers.
By committing to the craft, the Lakers have trusted a young star who still has a shot at greatness.
And the Wizards have decided who will be the centerpiece of their team going forward.

Jack Fischer reports Wizards telling teams Kyle Kuzma is unavailable for trade.
It’s clear the Wizards have moved Hachimura because they believe Kuzma is the future of the franchise and they’ll try to build the team around him.
In recent months, speculation has focused on Kuzma’s plans.
He is currently averaging 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4 assists per game and is playing some of the best basketball of his career.
Those numbers meant he could have made a lot for the Wiz had they traded him – but they also meant he could eventually be the person at the helm of the team.
We now see Washington opting for the latter option.
That doesn’t necessarily mean guys like Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis will be on the move, but it certainly means Kuzma isn’t going anywhere.
Now the wizarding front office must do all they can to give Kuzma and his peers the necessary reinforcements to become contenders in the East.
It won’t be an easy task, especially with the hole they’ve dug themselves.
With the latest moves, Washington’s overall plan for the coming seasons is starting to take shape.
What are they going to do now that Hachimura is gone and Kuzma is here to stay?
